Embrace Your Decision to Wear A Wig!

I have never understood why there is such a stigma that comes with wigs and wearing wigs as I have always seen it as a super power. More and more women wear wigs or hair additions each year, but for some reason, none of us are allowed to talk about it. I hear weird things said about wigs all the time:

Wigs can fall off (only true if it is not well made and you do not attach it correctly).

Wigs do not look natural (only true if you do not take care of your wig or what is underneath).

People will know you are wearing a wig (very untrue...and now a day, people do not care).

Funny thing is, most people who say negative things about wearing a wig have never actually worn a wig so it is not only insensitive but ignorance when it comes to the versatility of other peoples hair. So let us talk about it, why do people love to wear wigs?

  • Wigs allow you to save money….

Yes, we all know that QUALITY wigs can be expensive but paying the cost on the frontend will save in cost. In addition, when wearing a wig you will save on the cost of going to the salon/hairdresser, which also contributed to the money saving aspect. Quality human hair wigs do not need to be replaced as synthetic wigs and can come styled, which only required maintenance (washing, conditioning, etc.). It might seem like having a natural style is less expensive when you look at the upfront cost of wearing a wig, over time wearing wigs costs significantly less.

  • Wigs can hide problem areas as you address them

Hair loss among women is a lot more common than most people think. Nearly 30 million American women suffer from some form of hair loss, almost 10% of all women in the US. It is not just older women who are affected by hair loss, either. Younger women experience hair loss because of weight gain or loss, stress, illness, or postpartum side effects. Our hair is part of our personality. A new look can make us feel flirty and vivacious, or mysterious and CONFIDENT. When we lose our hair, it can feel like we have lost a part of ourselves. Wigs and extensions cover up the evidence that hair loss leaves behind so that you can feel good about yourself when you look in the mirror.

  • Wigs allow us to be versatile and switch it up

If you are non-committal about your style or like changing things up, wigs are the way to go. Wigs let you try out as many new styles as you want, whenever you want, without damaging your natural hair. Relaxing and curling treatments, dye jobs, blowouts - all of these cause damage to your hair. The more often you get your hair styled, the more damage you will accumulate. If you like to switch up your style, or if you want to test-drive a new look before committing to it, try a wig!

  • Wigs save you TIME!

The thing about having a great (natural) hairstyle is that it takes FOREVER to create. Even if you have a shorter style, a lot of time and effort goes into styling your hair. Creating salon-quality looks at home can be difficult (we still cannot get that weird spot at the back of our head to completely dry). Wigs give you salon quality styles in a fraction of the time it takes to style natural hair. All you need to do is comb your wig, shake it out, put it on your head, and walk out the door. Our lives are busier than ever. Wear a wig and save yourself some time so that you can do the things you actually like doing.

  • Wigs are a PROTECTIVE style all their own!

Let us be honest...curling irons, straighteners, blow dryers, hairspray, mousse, and heat protectants damage hair! All the things that we use to style our hair ultimately damage our hair in some way. If your hair is thinning or damaged, damaging it even more is the last thing you want to do. Wearing a wig not only protects the natural hair underneath your wig, but it also encourages regrowth. Wigs, literally, give your hair a break, allowing it to grow back stronger and longer than ever before. Wigs can protect your hair from bad weather, too. In climates with very dry air, like in the desert or very cold places, our hair can become brittle and dry. Wigs protect your hair from the elements. Taking off your wig daily will allow your hair/scalp to breathe and allow quality product to be used.
